Changes to Consumer Credit Act confuse debtors
Insolvency practitioners are expecting to be inundated with calls for help from confused debtors who are concerned by changes to the Consumer Credit Act, which came into effect last month. The changes mean that debtors in an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA), set up by insolvency practitioners and debt advisers, will be sent details of the outstanding balance of their debt. They fear that debtors may believe the correspondence is a demand for payment.
